Task 1

WHO AM I - WHO ARE THEY?

-What basic skills do I have and intend to develop further?
  • Typography
  • Layout
  • Adobe software
  • Digital illustration
  • Pictograms and Icons
  • Video
-Who needs these skills? Where are my potential clients located?

Magazines:

Creative review- A leading magazine for visual communication. This magazine really appeals to me as it looks at typography, layout, illustration and many other medias. I love the simplicity they use when putting together pages.

''The aim of Creative Review is to inspire, inform and stimulate debate among our readers in graphic design, advertising, digital media, illustration, photography and all other fields of visual communication worldwide. We do this in a number of ways.''

Computer Arts- A graphic magazine, also available online, deals with the digital side of graphics. The books features work from the likes of James Jean, Non-Format, Neville Brody, Airside, Hort, Vault49, Serial Cut, Jasper Goodall, Deanne Cheuk and many more.
Computer Arts deals a lot with illustration, which I have always said isn't a particular strong point of mine. However, although I'm not extremely confident in my drawings, I think once they're put onto computer and digitalised, they look so much better. Although I plan to specialise in typography, I still intend to carry on with this process along side of my other work.

Mother, London- I visited Mother on a trip during college a few years back. They're awesome!!
I've been trying to find them online, but I can't seem to find an actual home page for the London agency.
The link below shows some of their work. Pretty cool stuff!

I'm really interested in video. I know I haven't done a lot during my time at college, but I intend on using this method of working more.

The idea of work placements scare me, and so does knowing there's only one year left at college.
I know the area I'm interested in, it's the confidence I need to get a grips of. I'm very unconfident in myself, however I know I will always push myself to do things I know I may not want to do.
I will research into as many companies as I can, so I know what's out there and available.
I think I work well both on my own and in a group, so I'm torn between which I'd prefer. I've had some really good experience working in groups and with one other person, so I'm comfortable with anything. I guess working in a group would be more ideal as each person has their own specialities, and using eachother is handy.
I've thought about freelance work, but I know it would'nt be the best thing for me as I wouldn't have the drive and motivation to do the work or get recognised. I know I need something behind me, pushing me and inspiring me to work, and get the work done.
I know a few people in the graphic industry, so I will be contacting them to see if I can plan any research visits.
